In the Black Sand Dunes tour you'll get the chance to ride ATV (quad bikes) across the sand dunes at the edges of Vatnajokull National Park. The trip starts at the geothermal pools at Hoffell and then we will proceed to drive into the epic looking landscape of the black sand dunes. The surrounding Hoffell mountains rise for 900 meters with their bush covered hills looming over the area, providing a Lord of the Rings-like character. All of the land we journey across was covered by glacial water only 80 years ago. It is truly magnificent to experience the drastic change of the area's nature that has happened over such a short period of time.
This adventure reaches it's climax at the foot of Hoffellsjökull glacier where travellers get up close and personal with the majestic glacial lagoon and its fantastic icebergs.
