ICE-land, upgraded Glacier
Exhibition
The Glacier Exhibition in Höfn has been renewed.
Visitors have the opportunity to experience and learn about the
area, the nature and basic glaciology. The Exhibition is divided
into five accessible sections.
Room 1: Introduction and Nature
Conservation
Room 2: Nature and National Parks
Room 3: Glaciology
Room 4: Experiences - e.g. walking into the
equivalent of a crevasse and an icecave.
Room 5: Recidence near the Vatnajökull glacier
and Reasearch Expeditions.
A film about volcanic eruptions (10 min.) is projected onto a
big screen, and three other films are shown on 42" screens.
Visitors can participate in the exhibition. Various
media is offered, such as computer data, a range of sound effects
and interactive models and measuring devices.
Centrally located in Höfn, The Exhibition rooms provide a direct
view to Vatnajökull and some of its outlet glaciers. A
platform on the roof is also accessible for a panoramic view of the
surroundings.
Designed by Björn G. Björnsson, The Glacier Exhibition in Höfn
is an ambitious project, aimed to meet the demand for cultural
tourism.
