This day tour from Hornafjörður offers a visit to Vatnajokull, Europe's biggest glacier. You will get up close and personal with a lake of icebergs and race across the king of Glaciers in Europe on snow cats or super jeeps. The glacier covers 10% of the total area of the country, with it's 8,400 square kilometres of ice. Glacial experts from Vatnajokull Travel pick up the group at Hornafjordur and Hornafjordur airport and haed straight for Vatnajokull glacier. The drive up on to the glacier is an adventure in it self providing spectacular views. Our destination on the glacier is Jöklasel, the glacial lodge, at an elevation of 840 m above sea level. There you take a scenic super jeep trip or a thrilling snow cat (skidoo) ride. Racing across Europe’s biggest glacier on a skidoo is an experience not soon to be forgotten. Facilities in the "glacier lodge" include a restaurant with an absolutely breathtaking view from the mountaintop to the open Atlantic Ocean, not to mention delicious food!

After exploring the Glacier we descend and head for the Glacial Lagoon where you will take a memorable boat trip on the lagoon. The Glacial Lagoon is dotted with icebergs of all sizes from the calving glacier tongue. The lagoon is one of the most exotic attractions in Iceland and offers tremendous opportunities for photographing majestic icebergs.

After the exhilarating experience of a cruise on the Glacial Lagoon, we retrace our route to Hofn in Hornafjörður. This day tour will take you on exciting rides across unique scenery in a world of ice.

Please note that driving on a snow scooter requires a valid driving license which should be available on request. Without the driving license the driver is not insured and hence responsible for any damage that he may cause to himself/herself, property or people. Upon reaching the glacier by bus passengers borrow helmets and snowsuits.
