Embark on a scenic journey across the area that puts the “Ice“ in Iceland. This action-packed day tour starts and ends in the Icelandic capital, Reykjavik. You will trek across mighty Vatnajokull’s domain via plane, boat, bus and ATV. It is guaranteed to leave you in awe of the beautiful and almost mythical nature surrounding Europe’s biggest glacier, Vatnajokull. This is nature on the grand scale.

An action-packed day tour with a boat trip on a lake of icebergs and an ATV adventure tour across black sand dunes in the shadow of Europe’s biggest glacier.
We fly to Höfn in Hornafjördur, a young town partially framed by Vatnajökull Glacier, larger that all other glaciers in Europe combined. This glacier and its various tongues flow along steep mountainsides, gently dominating the region´s coastline. Our glacial expert guide drives us to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where huge, aqua-blue icebergs dot this mythical lake. We board a boat and shove off for an otherworldly cruise, zigzagging between the imposing icebergs. This area has set the stage for epic scenes from blockbuster movies such as Batman Begins, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider as well as the James Bond films Die Another Day and A View to a Kill. 

We then head over to Hoffell for a ATV-ride to remember. The trip starts at the geothermal pools at Hoffell and then we will proceed to drive into the epic looking landscape of the black sand dunes. The surrounding Hoffell mountains rise for 900 meters with their bush covered hills looming over the area, providing a Lord of the Rings-like character. All of the land we journey across was covered by glacial water only 80 years ago. It is truly magnificent to experience the drastic change of the area's nature that has happened over such a short period of time.

Returning to Höfn we will visit the Glacier Exhibition to learn more about the area, the nature and basic glaciology. The Exhibition rooms provide a direct view to Vatnajökull and some of its outlet glaciers. A platform on the roof is also accessible for a panoramic view of the surroundings. As you return to Reykjavik by plane, you can salute Vatnajokull as you fly over him and his backyard where you have played and likely spent an unforgettable day.
