Vatnajökull Travel offers unique tours in the
Vatnajökull region all year long.
During our bright and beautiful summerdays (June 1st.-August
31st.) we offer exciting day tours to Jökulsárlón where we take a
boat tour and either a snowmobile tour on Vatnajökull glacier or a
visit to our black sands on Suðurfjörur where we have a fun filling
time on ATV´s, to some known as four wheelers. A great way to spend
the day during our amazing summer months! After the tour we
recommend a fresh lobster meal at one of our local cuisines!
Our winter tours encompass the best of our region to give you
days full of action and yet time for tranquility during our cosy
wintermonths (October-April). We take you around our natural
treasures where you will experience the ice cold glacier following
a dip into a warm natural hot tub, you will see our breathtaking
views and are very likely to encounter seals by the seashore and
some friendly reindeers on your way! In the evening we go searching
for northern lights (aurora borealis), but our area is well known
for that natural wonder!

Day
Boat trip on the famous Glacier Lagoon and an ATV excursion near Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull.
We fly to Höfn in Hornafjördur, a young town partially framed by
Vatnajökull Glacier, larger than all other glaciers in Europe combined.
This glacier and its various tongues flow along steep mountainsides,
gently dominating the region's coastline. Our waiting coach drives us to
the Glacier Lagoon, where huge, aqua-blue icebergs dot this mystical
space. We board a boat and shove off for an otherworldly cruise,
zigzagging between the imposing bergs. This area was the setting for the
opening scenes of the James Bond film, Die Another Day.
In the Black Sand Dunes tour you'll get the chance to ride ATV (quad
bikes) across the sand dunes at the edges of Vatnajokull National Park.
The trip starts at the geothermal pools at Hoffell and then we will
proceed to drive into the epic looking landscape of the black sand
dunes. The surrounding Hoffell mountains rise for 900 meters with their
bush covered hills looming over the area, providing a Lord of the
Rings-like character
Jökulsárlón on Breiðamerkursandur is a natural wonder, where huge icebergs float on the lagoon.
The lagoon started to form around 1934 and is now around 200 meters deep by the edge of the
glacier. There is a fjord underneath the glacier where the lagoon is even deeper.
An adventure ATV tour where you drive into a long beautiful valley where nature is unspoiled and
the forces of nature have sculptured the environment. Guided tours in the world of glaciers, great
mountains, gravel banks, vegetation, wild reindeer and Icelandic horses.In the end is good idea to
take geothermal baths in a beautiful area enveloped by mountains and glacier.

Today it is a part of Vatnajökull National Park which covers 13% of Iceland (16.600 km²). The park
is both charming and magnificent at once with its diverse vegetation, powerful glaciers and deserted

This day tour from Hornafjörður offers a visit to Vatnajokull,
Europe's biggest glacier. You will get up close and personal with a lake
of icebergs and race across the king of Glaciers in Europe on snow cats
or super jeeps. The glacier covers 10% of the total area of the country, with it's 8,400 square kilometres of ice. Glacial experts from Vatnajokull Travelpick up the group at Hornafjordur and Hornafjordur airport and haed straight for Vatnajokull glacier.
The drive up on to the glacier is an adventure in it self providing
spectacular views.
